Identity and Description
name — The public-facing name of your organisation. Use the same name as your site name, your logo, and your social media profiles. Consistency across all these sources — schema, Google Business Profile, social profiles, directory listings — is critical for entity recognition. Google explicitly says to use the same name and alternateName you’re using for your site name.
alternateName — Any other name your organisation commonly goes by: a trading name, an abbreviation, a former name, or a common short form. For example, a university formally named “The University of Edinburgh” might list “Edinburgh University” as alternateName.
legalName — The registered, official legal name — as it appears in government registries, company filings, and formal documents. Often different from the public trading name. A company might trade as “CloudBase” but be registered as “Cloudbase Technologies Limited”. Include legalName when it differs from name.
description — A factual description of your organisation’s purpose, activities, and scope. Write it as you would for a press release or Wikipedia article — objective, informative, and focused on what the organisation does. AI search platforms use this description when generating content about your organisation. Target 100–200 words.
url — The URL of your organisation’s official website. This is the primary online identifier for your entity. It must exactly match your canonical domain URL.
foundingDate — The date the organisation was founded, in ISO 8601 format: "YYYY-MM-DD" or just "YYYY" if only the year is known. Founding date contributes to entity disambiguation and is displayed in Knowledge Panels.
numberOfEmployees — The size of your organisation using a QuantitativeValue object. For a specific number: {"@type": "QuantitativeValue", "value": 2056}. Visual Identity
logo — A logo that is representative of your organisation. This is the primary visual identity signal Google uses for Knowledge Panels and search result displays. Location and Contact

Business Identifiers — The Verification Layer
These identifier properties are how Google and AI systems verify your organisation’s real-world existence. They cross-reference your schema against official registries and databases. iso6523Code — The ISO 6523 identifier. A globally recognised identifier format that uses a two-part structure: an International Code Designator (ICD) followed by the actual identifier, separated by a colon.

vatID — The Value Added Tax identification number assigned to your organisation by the tax authority of your country. Format varies by country: UK: GB123456789, EU: country code followed by registration number, e.g. DE123456789. Google cites vatID as an important trust signal — users can look up businesses in public VAT registries to verify legitimacy.
taxID — The tax identifier associated with your organisation in your country. In the US: the Employer Identification Number (EIN) for businesses, or the 501(c)(3) registration number for non-profits. In the UK: the company registration number from Companies House, or the charity registration number from the Charity Commission. Match taxID to the country declared in your address field.
leiCode — The Legal Entity Identifier — a 20-character alphanumeric code assigned to entities engaged in financial transactions. How to Use the Organization Schema Markup Generator
Step 1: Select Your Organization Type Choose the most specific type from the 21 options. This single decision determines which property set you see in the generator form and which schema type Google processes. A university is CollegeOrUniversity, not Organisation. A registered charity is NGO, not Organisation. A band is MusicGroup, not Organisation.
Step 2: Enter Your Core Identity Fields Name, legalName (if different from name), alternateName, description, url, and foundingDate. Write your description as a factual, objective summary — 100–200 words is the target. Avoid marketing superlatives.
Step 3: Add Your Logo Upload your logo URL. Use the full ImageObject format if you want to declare dimensions explicitly. Minimum 112×112px, must be publicly accessible, must look correct on a white background.
Step 4: Complete Your Address Fill in the full PostalAddress with all components relevant to your country. If you have multiple locations, add each as a separate address object in the array.

How to Add Organization Schema to Your Website

Most Organization schema tutorials mention vatID and stop there. The iso6523Code property is significantly more powerful for entity disambiguation — and almost universally ignored by schema generators and SEO guides alike.
ISO 6523 is an international standard that defines a structure for identifying organisations. It uses a two-part format: an ICD (International Code Designator) that identifies the classification scheme, followed by the actual identifier, separated by a colon.
There are three ICDs that matter most for web entities:
0060: — Dun & Bradstreet DUNS Number. A 9-digit identifier maintained by the world’s largest commercial data company. D&B DUNS numbers are cross-referenced by multinational corporations, government procurement systems, and credit agencies worldwide. If your business has a DUNS number, adding it as "iso6523Code": "0060:123456789" creates a direct link between your schema and D&B’s authoritative business database.
0088: — GS1 Global Location Number (GLN). A 13-digit number from the GS1 system, used primarily in retail, logistics, healthcare, and supply chain contexts. Particularly relevant for physical retail businesses, distributors, and any organisation involved in product supply chains.
